Hello everyone,
Google Summer of Code 2009 is on! We are now accepting applications
[0] from Free and Open Source software projects that would like to act
as mentoring organizations for the program, and the application
deadline is March 13th. We will begin accepting student applications
on March 23rd.
Make sure to read our Frequently Asked Questions [1] and User's Guide
[2] before applying.
***Very Important:***
Google App Engine will be down for planned maintenance from 1:00 -
5:00 UTC on March 10, 2009. During this time, no applications can be
submitted. You may also notice some slowness with the Google Summer of
Code 2009 site [3] , which should be corrected after this planned
maintenance. You are welcome to wait until after the maintenance
window to submit your application, as the time when it is submitted
has no effect on your chances for acceptance. (Unless of course you
don't apply before the deadline, in which case you are guaranteed not
be accepted. :)
***Even More Important:***
While we encourage students applicants to begin talking with would-be
mentoring organizations sooner rather than later, it is important to
reiterate that there is no guarantee that any particular organization
will be accepted. We will announce the list of accepted organizations
on the 2009 program site on March 18th. It is also very important to
note that even once an organization is accepted, they cannot guarantee
that any student will be accepted into the program. The list of
accepted students will be announced on the 2009 program site on April
20th. To be very clear, until these announcements are made, *nothing*
is final, guaranteed, etc.
We are hanging out in #gsoc if you have questions. Please make sure to
take a look at the documentation before pinging.
Best of luck to all of our applicants. Our fifth Google Summer of Code is on!
Cheers,
LH
