No, you are explointing a so far unused and (because it was unused)
unknowlingly broken feature. That's why it's not a regression.

No idea - Seemingly ever since RTEMS (> 15 years) and binutils (even more
years) exist, everybody but you has managed to get around without this - That's
my point.
