I checked devFS, miniIMFS and IMFS.  Together the two patches I posted should
fix the issue (I think).  Feedback is needed.

I did notice the the IMFS has its own freenode implementation which is
the same as the recently introduced default.  It needs to switch.  And
we need to review the existing filesystems to see if they have methods
which can be replaced with the default.

Please let me know if these patches fix your issue.
