Chris,  

Please look at the attached patch.  It seems to work ok for untar from memory.
Then I test untar from file.  The test sequence for that part is:

+ copy memory image to /test.tar
+ mkdir /dest
+ chdir /dest
+ untar from file /test.tar
+ Then it uses test_cat to display the files untar'ed.  That gives an
error.  

Any insight would be appreciated.
