Oops, ugly typo.
I meant: Does source level debugging "sparc-rtems4.11-gcc -g"
compiled code work in sparc-rtems4.11-gdb.

The background of my question was: Does the demand for using an outdated
debugging format such as "gstabs" originate from limitations/bugs of/in gdb or
from limitations of the toolchain the OP is using.
What you say indicates the later.
