Hi,

I'm a FreeBSD ports developer. I recently found this bug through an email the
FreeBSD ports mailing list.

Using the ports collection provides a number of useful features on top of
building from source including: automatic dependency tracking, file ownership
tracking, conflict prevention, etc. As such I don't think its a good idea to
remove the ports. That said, broken or outdated ports don't help anyone and if
they can't be kept up to date that is a problem.

Would you be willing to help us identify and fix the issues or are there
fundamental problems that prevent them from ever working?

[I'm opening the bug again while this discussion happens but will happily
reclose if the resolution remains the same]
