I am a bit unsure about the approach with checking the GCC version by calling `sparc-rtems6-gcc`. What do you really know about the `sparc-rtems6-gcc` you are calling? Is it an old `gcc` from a different run of a different RSB? Is it installed by the current RSB? Is the current RSB run going to overwrite the `gcc` you called (by a one being of a different version)?
Moreover, in bug report #29 it called an installed `gcc`:
```
/opt/rtems/6/bin/sparc-rtems6-gcc
```
but RSB has options to for example build only packages and to install nothing at all.
