Okay, well do what you feel is right I was suggesting to just leave your change in and add another field with the long version.  As long as we don't have super long hashes evrywhere where you're always trying to cut and paste the first random amount of characters.  I find that really annoying in other projects when they use a long verison people copy anywhere from 6-12 characters for the version string.
