You mean the maximum version is impossible to track?
What about the suggestion to select few officially supported distributions that hopefully will be used in a CI at some point? That should make it *easier* to support because not every combination has to be tested. That doesn't mean that patches for other distributions can't be included. But like I said: It would at least provide a starting point for setting up a development VM or container.
