I have reviewed [gmp's repo](https://gmplib.org/repo/gmp/) and the fix went in about 6 months ago. There is also support for more Apple ARM cpus. 

1. Do we think it is OK to update GMP to a snapshot to work around this problem?
2. How would we track moving to the next GMP release once one is made?

I am in favor of using a snapshot to see how we go? @joel ?
