This is a big leap we haven't updated before as there was no real need but we also lack funding for tasks like this and 4-8 hours per update is just too much to invest for it to be done every 6 weeks.

The huge range is because sometimes Postgres needs updating or there are issues that require reverting and looking into what went wrong.  Also as our GitLab instance grows the backups take longer and longer.

In the future I hope to have this across two machines so one can be updated and the other updated after so there is zero downtime and less pressure on planning everything ahead of time but that's not actually a time saver as it's a lot more work to run things that way it will mean no downtime, though.
