i think that sounds right. When I asked on the binutils mailing list, Alan Modra gave this [explanation](https://sourceware.org/pipermail/binutils/2026-January/147930.html).

My understanding is that as a cross BSP issue, some sections have that attribute and are being included in the BSS size. That seems to be your explanation also. 

Any idea what to change that still reflects the intent and use without confusing _size_?
