Hi @Chloe. Thanks for the MR.

We generally treat the commit message to talk about what the commit message is doing, instead of what we did in the commit.

So, instead of "Therefore, I update the code to explicitly check for NULL before using the descriptor.", you can just write: "Add check for NULL pointer after malloc call", or something similar to that
