Although this seems to work, it is a violation of software modularity for the cpukit to be pulling things in from the BSP, so this present solution is not preferable.

Pursuing the other path to create the layer in the cpukit is a better long-term solution for sure. The other alternative would be moving all of this into the BSP/shared, but that's not really an improvement IMO.
