I have been doing some baremetal benchmarking between 
- Xilinx GCC 4.8
- Xilinx GCC 13
- mainline gcc 17
- Patched version of LLVM

Mainline GCC 17 without patches has outperformed xilinx GCC 13 on my benchmarks.

I question if we can just go to mainline GCC 17 and abandon the patches.

Ping me when Mainline GCC 17 is in RSB / a branch and I will attempt to use it to build and test microblaze, and run the test suite before (xilinx 4.8) and after (17).
