Thanks for raising this MR so soon. I actually implemented a similar change in local but held off pushing it since this involves shared headers, would affect multiple files, so I was waiting for maintainer confirmation.

One thing I noticed is that the pc386 header is removed entirely, but a few macros present there are not in the x86_64 header. Some seem unused, but a few appear to still be referenced, so I was wondering if this was tested on pc386 and whether it builds cleanly.

For now let the maintainers take the call on this, you can take this up no worries
