Yes Raspberry PI 4, I've edited the description.

Those sound like OK goals I would add trying to get a library or two working like WLED or some other useful micropython library that uses GPIO to control something rather than just direct Python doesn't matter what it is.  A sensor would use I2C generally so that would be useful.  An SPI screen maybe?  Entirely up to whomever decides to work on this project.
