As you know, I am not a native English speaker, so their might be 
subtilities of the English language I tripped over, I might not be aware 
about.

Which? - The "right"?

Let me turn this around: Who decided upon a change in commit and 
ChangeLog policies? I am not aware anybody did.

I am only aware about some people who out of a sudden changed their 
commit habits (who legitimated them to do so?), in ways I consider to be 
sloppy and to be harmful to the project.
