It's not clear to me what to do about this. SuSE's GCC maintainer says 
installing <target>-gcc-<as,nm,ranlib> is desired, but I so far fail to 
understand what this feature would be useful for.

More astonishingly, somehow this "feature" seems to be disabled in 
RH/Fedora's upcomming gcc-4.7.0. Unfortunately, I haven't yet figured 
out how.
