Why not directly link the object files? Placing them in an archive and asking ld
to read them and link them as if passed on the command would seem to be a
binutils test and not an RTEMS one. All that tests is ld can manage ELF files in
an archive.

I am not questioning the test and it's need to make sure linkercmd files etc are
working, it is the need for the archive I am questioning.
