git history rewriting

We had some large binary files accidentally get introduced by an MR
that we did not catch during the review. These files are not necessary
and I already reverted them, but Joel and I have agreed that since
these were still on the top of main that we can remove those commits
from the history.

Anyone who pulled from main in the last 21 hours or so would have
picked up the commits that we are removing.

The last good commit that should be the HEAD after the rewrite in main is:
