Timeout in Sockets

Hi,

I'm looking for a way to do timed socket operations, eg. to cancel a
read after a timeout has occured.

I tried setting the SO_RCVTIMEO socket option but nothing happens.

The use of the select function gives me linker errors with 'undefined 
reference'

Has anyone a suggestion how to solve this?
