building a boot disk?

Is there a method to create a bootdisk to test my application with rtems,
or is it designed to be fully embedded if we want to use rtems to test our
programs?

I haven't been successful in getting the rtems executive to boot from a
floppy on any of my target machines, so I was hoping for some add'l
information on how to achieve such a feat.
