PPP User Authentication

Hi,
My application is using RTEMS to make a PPP connection
over a null modem serial line to a PPP server.  This
is working correctly but now I want to use CHAP user
authentication.  

Has anyone successfully configured this?  Is it just a 
matter of getting a connect script set into the code?  
How different is the connect script if I do not need to
perform any dialing?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
