Problem changing RTEMS Network Gateway

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience changing the network (ethernet)
interface gateway address without shutting down and reinitializing the
network? We have tried deleting the routing table entry for the default
route and adding a new one, but something seems to be missing (it
doesn't work). Can anyone explain what is involved in performing this
function correctly?
