Sparc/ERC32 interrupt-driven console

Has anyone used the interrupt-driven console routines for the ERC32 BSP, in 
RTEMS 4.5.0 distribution? Either with the sis simulator or with real hardware.

There are comments in the code about undesirable behavior of the 
interrupts, which is true, and when I tried defining CONSOLE_USE_INTERRUPTS 
in custom/erc32.cfg, it did not seem to work. Should it work? Do I need to 
define any other things along with CONSOLE_USE_INTERRUPTS for best results?
