RTEMS on Altera NIOS processor

The Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGA processor that Peter mentioned
uses the PPC405 core, which I think has an RTEMS BSP for it.
Peter and I started to look at it about weeks ago. The bus
speed is very fast. There is no loyaty license or Non
Disclosure Agreement (NDA) involved.

One thing to note is that there is no FPU hardware. It
relies on software FPU.
