I use a debugger for almost all of my RTEMS work. It makes things a
lot easier. I can't think of anything a ROM monitor can do that you
can't do with a debugger. There are lots of things a monitor can't do,
or can't do well, that you can do with a debugger - debugging
interrupts, single instruction stepping, completely halting the CPU
are some. 

Plug: The Abatron BDI-2000 appears to be the best debugger on the
market. It supports most 32 bit CPUs and works with GDB. It is
somewhat expensive (about $2500-$3000 plus $1000 for each additional
CPU architecture). Periodically, I look at all the other debuggers I
can find, but none match the Abatron.
