What version is the native gcc on Mac OSX?  gcc has changed a lot in the 
intervening years since 4.6.4 was released.  On a Fedora Core 4 machine, gcc 
3.2.3 is available as gcc32.  It might be worth trying again, but using gcc32 
instead of gcc as the native compiler.
