My experience is that very few on the list use Cygwin, and aren't
inclined to put time into figuring out problems that don't happen on
Linux hosts (not that they don't want to help, but they don't even
have a way to test without finding a Windows box and installing
Cygwin on it). My experience is that developing under Cygwin
involves most of the complications of developing under Linux (you
still have to deal with make, bash, scripts, etc), but has a variety
of drawbacks (slower, less tested, possibly less stable, harder to
find precompiled binaries for tools, etc). If I had it to do again,
I would take the plunge and get a Linux box going right away. If you
are hooked on a Windows code editor, you can access the source files
over a network. YMMV.
