MinGW useage (Re: RTEMS 4.8.0 Available)

While trying to use the new minGW binaries I came across a problem.
While doing the build (make all) it would often stop many time with the
pop up message:

"16-Bit MSDOS Subsystem
NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction ...
Close? / Ignore?"

This always seems to occur when this line is displayed:

"Checking whether arm-rtems4.8-gcc --pipe and cc understand -c and -o
together."

If I hit close or ignore the build continues but the "make all"
operation eventually fails.
