Can't Build New Device Driver

Not sure where to put this, or if it matters where, but I did so

Results:  I added "BUILT_SOURCES = preinstall" and then did a full 
"bootstrap -p", then a "make all", and it still doesn't work.

Attached (really!) is a bz2 of the current Makefile.am and Makefile.in - 
can anyone help?
