Okay, as usual, you're quite right, Thomas!

The unresolved symbol 'rtems_libi2c_ioctl' is, as you know, from the 
newer libi2c.c, not that in 4.8.0.  I started with 4.8.0 by making and 
installing, then added the new stuff, then ran make again.  Apparently, 
I forgot the 'make install' step!!!  Ouch!
