YEAH!  hello world now runs!!

ticker fails with this:

rtems_configuration_get_microseconds_per_tick() 10000
PERIOD 750000
core: 4 byte write to unmapped address 0x80002008 at 0x8000eb0

So it needs a timer configured.

Does the simulator have a magic way to exit?
