Freescale HAL licencing + processor selection help

I’m going to go pessimistic on this one and say that the customer’s need for compatibility and support are trumped by the requirement to provide maximum value to shareholders.

You would have to look at the product line and technology holes that NXP filled by purchasing Freescale. It could be that NXP (Philips) wants to be THE big player in automotive over Renesas (NEC) , and Freescale PPC processors are the big ECU fish. 

NXP says that they have little overlap with Freescale except in the RF area, many users point at K-series and LPC and say “but what about these lines?”. No answers.
