distributed and heterogeneous processing in rtems

Hello,
somewhere in documentation of rtems I saw that rtems supports
homogeneous and heterogeneous multiprocessing.
Could you tell me to what extent it is implemented, what standards
and mechanisms are used, what examples do exist in the current
kernel? I am more interested in heterogeneous processing.
Also, it is interesting is there any distributed systems support in retms,
like qnet in qnx?
