Another observation:
There are tests which do not expose the "spurious interrupt 7".

All of these don't have "CONFIGURE_APPLICATION_NEEDS_CLOCK_DRIVER" set, for
example: 

samples/hello/hello.exe
samples/minimum/minimum.exe
samples/unlimited/unlimited.exe
sptests/sp10/sp10.exe
sptests/sp18/sp18.exe
sptests/sp51/sp51.exe
sptests/sp56/sp56.exe
sptests/sp63/sp63.exe
sptests/spcoverage/spcoverage.exe
