I'd still like to explore working toward replacing the explicit version prefix either with `stable/`, an equivalent, or its removal altogether.

If the version number prefix is an interface that we've guaranteed, we can keep it around as stubs that generate warnings in the output (but otherwise work as intended) for the time being and rtems-deployment build sets can be updated to elide the prefix after a certain major version number.
