Thanks for the MR and the scale of work you have put into making this happen. I appreciate the initiative and support the direction and reasons why you are pushing us in this direction.

I have done a brief review and I suspect I will need to spend more time as well as complete a build before I can consider approval. Others may beat me to approval :smile: 

The review comments here are related to the process and support we need to have to allow editing of the sources. The README.md seem to document editing ReST?

I am assuming this initial conversion is a 1:1 match of the existing documentation? Is the plan to look at MD constructs that simplify the MD sources? For example the ReST `.. rubric` formatting?
