I've cleaned up my code, tried to follow all the principles of how to write code and licensing and all that, then opened this [MR](https://gitlab.rtems.org/rtems/rtos/rtems/-/merge_requests/613).

Since merging all of the code in one MR would be painful, I've decided to split it into multiple functional chunks and merge. That's exactly what is MR is for, and after the merge, a second one will follow!
