This test is unstable on systems with no true parallel execution, in particular Qemu. The problem with the MrsP is that it uses polling loops and it is quite hard to figure out in which state another processor is with respect to the protocol. In the validation tests, some tooling was added to make the tests stable. The same techniques could help here also. If changing the tick rate fixes the problem in most cases, then this would be a good workaround.
