And it looks like you are installing Debian packages. There have never
been officially released binaries in .deb format.

Now the project has moved to having people use the RTEMS Source Builder
(https://git.rtems.org/rtems-source-builder/) to build the tools from
source. This makes it possible to support a much wider variety of
host operating systems and versions.

The GSOC Getting Started has good instructions.
