Regarding idle thread in scheduling

Hi,

Can someone please tell me what is the logic behind using functions
like _Scheduler_Discard_idle_thread and _Scheduler_Release_idle_thread and
other similar functions dealing with idle threads?

Reading the code is hard without having an idea about the motivation of the
functions.
