RTEMS Tester: Set Timeout in *.ini?

Also what is the difference between these to two options:

# Defaults
timeout:              none,    none,     '180'  # seconds
max_test_period:      none,    none,     '300'  # seconds

If I set --timeout=600 on the command line I get a test too long error 
after 300 seconds.
