Configuration Error's

Hi All,
I'm having strange error's while trying to configure and build RTEMS.  I
keep getting the following error,

'configure: error: invalid variable name: build_alias'

This seems to happen at totally random places in either the configuration or
'make all' process.  I am using Cygwin on Win2K Pro and I have read in
previous postings that Cygwin has a broken shell.  I have tried renaming
bash to sh, disabling virus protection, relaxing the file access security
mechanisms and a few other desperate things, but nothing works.

I don't recall having this problem before and I have built several
variations of the RTEMS library in the past.  Has anyone solved this sort of
problem?
