I had patches to make MCP750 work correctly on IDE. I can try to find 
them back on tape archive. But be sure that you specify the right root 
when booting something like root=/dev/hdc1 because by default it use 
SCSI. Also you must have a small primary prep bootable partition and 
just dd vmlinuz on this partition. You can then boot directly from disk 
using something like pboot a;
