bootpc timeout on private network

Hi,
I had similar problems year ago. It took me half a
day to find out, that my Linux host sent out the
answers to the BOOTP request to the public network
instead of the private one.
Setting a route for the broadcast address
255.255.255.255 pointing to the private network
solved the problem.
