libc5 is obsolete, dead and unmaintained since some point in 1998. All
major Linux distros switched to using glibc2/libc6 for several years
So, though using such an ancient system as a less important server might
still make some sense, using such system as a developer's machine
doesn't (... unless working in a Linux-museum :-)).
You won't even be able to build and compile most modern software. AFAIK,
GCC is about to abandon libc5 in their next release, gcc-3.4.
