Can't use yum to get rpms

Hi,
I'm having this same problem (FC4 ; yum v. 2.3.2).
I'm not a yum expert, but it seems the repository was created with
yum-arch (or other old tool) that doesn't create the .xml metadata
files.
Is there a way to make yum desist looking for these files?
TIA,
Sebastian.-
