Guideline for (non-BSP) driver development?

Hi,

is there a guideline for the development of drivers using the
"Classic API"? I'm a bit confused wrt which components to use
(I/O, Interrupt, Event, Message, Task, ...) and how to combine
them.

I can imagine something which will probably work, but I'd
prefer to see some "best practices" first.

Is there some example driver for instance for some UART chip?
